How does WebServe VPS work?

Virtual servers are based on the concept of partitions on mainframes that allow dozens of divisions to run multiple applications on the same server with advanced resource scheduling. A Virtual Server behaves exactly like an isolated stand-alone Dedicated Server.
 
In greater detail, a single Server is split using highly sophisticated, Kernel-based partitioning software, into multiple "Virtual Servers". Each "Virtual Server" in turn has its own operating system with root access, and a 100% guaranteed equal share of resources (Processor, Disk, RAM) which can be appropriated for any purpose. The real beauty of the system is that one VPS cannot physically be affected by another VPS using the same hardware.
 
Here are some of the key concepts involved:-
 
Dynamic partitioning
Due to fair-sharing technology, each partition can have almost the same power as the full server. Hundreds of partitions can be created on one server, each with full dedicated-server functionality - root access, the ability to reboot and install any application, or change any file.
 

The technology we use allows for mainframe-like levels of resource utilization, monitoring and control on standard hardware. In addition to standard CPU, disk space and network I/O, it also enables complete memory (user, kernel and disk cache) and disk I/O management. VPSs are fully isolated with minimum and maximum resource guarantees. 

VPS technology also enables us to move live sites or hundreds of running applications to another physical server for planned system maintenance or when hardware upgrades are required. This can be done with only a few seconds of planned downtime, with huge gains in availability.
 
OS and Application Templating
Using our own application and OS templates, we are able to group together and deploy updates and applications to specific entire systems. This in turn enables the integrated versioning of all system files, libraries, and applications. Additional benefits include improved system uptime, and improved security.

Root/Administrator vs Plesk  

WebServe's Virtual Private Servers represent probably the most versatile hosting solution currently available. With all the functionality and performance of a dedicated server, at a fraction of the normal cost, the main decision you need to weigh up is whether to go for Root or Plesk access, and the inherent difference in terms of support and management this implies (see also VPS Support).

VPS Root/Administrator
Built with systems administrators in mind, our line of Virtual Servers come with full root access in Linux or Administrator level access in Windows platforms, giving you ultimate control and flexibility, while offering exceptional value.

Root/Admin level access are best used for applications and more complex configurations where you need root level access and control over the server, such as Tomcat and Java solutions, specific Apache settings, and the ability to maintain sites and applications through SSH.

You are also able to install and configure your own applications, so for developers, testers and online gaming, the VPS is the ideal package. (Although there are certain restrictions in terms of the types of applications that you can run on the WebServe VPS architecture)*

As we offer full root access to the VPS, Please note that by default we do not install the Plesk Control Panel as it is quite resource consuming and not necessary for an experienced system admin however it is available as per request bases, can be installed free of charge on VPSes with more than 256MB memory.

VPS Plesk
If you do not have systems administration experience, or simply do not have the time needed to maintain a server’s environment, you can add Plesk to your desired VPS packages.

Plesk control panel can be administrated by you and/or WebServe, and root/administration access is also supplied. Plesk VPS package allow easy and efficient multiple site administration through the Plesk interface, removing the need to maintain the server-side functionality.

In addition to this, the Plesk interface offers extra applications that are not available on WebServe shared solutions. These include Tomcat, Spam Assassin, Dr Web Anti-Virus and PostGreSQL, and can be added as 'Add-on Modules' for an extra fee. This effectively upgrades your Plesk license key.
